Engineering Resume (doc, rtf) | Teaching Resume (doc, rtf)

Ryan Kleeman is a Recording Engineer, Sound Designer, and Audio Instructor who is based in the Bay Area.  Ryan recently completed his Master of Fine Arts in Audio Recording and Sound Design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

At UMKC, Ryan studied theatre sound design with Tom Mardikes, film composition and sound design with Greg Mackender, and audio art installation with Dwight Frizzell.  Ryan was also a full-time Audio Staff Engineer for 4 years at the Conservatory of Music and Dance working under the tutelage of Chief Recording Engineer, Robert Beck.

Some of Ryan’s recent recording projects like “Ken Lovern’s Organ Jazz Trio featuring Bukeka Shoals” have had positive reviews in Keyboard magazine and local Kansas City Jazz publications.  Anvil Chorus, a local Kansas City rock band has also received wide spread attention from their shockingly impressive 5 song Demo that Ryan recorded, mixed and produced for the band in May 2005.

Ryan’s recent sound design credits for film include working on dialogue, foley effects, and composition for the short film, “The Story of a Conscience” which is a civil war story by Ambrose Bierce.  This film was directed by Don Maxwell, who was able to negotiate a deal with a film company to produce two more films that would be combined with “The Story of a Conscience” to make a trilogy of the great stories by Ambrose Bierce.  Ryan also produced a sound design for a short animation called BOING!  Ryan composed a unique sound design integrating all of the motion elements into the sound design and interweaving the visual with the aural of the animation, making this a truly lovable film for all ages.

Ryan’s recent sound design credits for theatre include designing sound for a production of The Trial at Kansas City’s Union Station Theatre.  This production of The Trial was directed by Ken Albers and heavily influenced by paranoia which was highlighted and driven by the unique use of sound.  Ryan also assisted Tom Mardikes with productions for The Kansas City Actor’s Theatre, designing “The Cripple of Inishmaan” by Martin McDonough, and designing for The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, designing “Much Ado about Nothing” by William Shakespeare.  Ryan was also the Chief Sound System Engineer for The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival for 4 years.
